hey gorgeous... welcome to thessaloniki
Founded in 315BC, Thessaloniki has it's historic sights while still remaining modern. It also has the second-largest port on the Aegean Sea and one of the largest student centres in all of Europe, so it sure makes for a bustling destination to head to!
Though it's lesbian scene is pretty in the closet still, and the gay scene isn't as big as Athens, it's a pretty welcoming place to visit. This stop HAS to be on any foodies bucket list as it's well known for the culinary delights, and of course, with great food, you've got to have great drink!

lgbtq+ liberation
Greece has come a long way in liberating its LGBTQ+ community, but it still has a long way to go. In 2018, IGLTA-Europe assessed 49 European countries on gay rights and Greece was found to have the highest improvements. Here are a few LGBTQ+ highlights that should be celebrated:
- Homosexual activity between males has been legal since 1951, whereas female homosexuality has always been legal (and by legal, we mean ignored entirely which in this case is great!).
- Discrimination in the workplace has been illegal since 2005.
- Same-sex couples are allowed to enter a civil union.
- LGBTQ+ peeps are allowed to serve in the military.
We wish we could jump on Greece's back with the LGBTQ+ movement and shout GIDDY UP, but everyone has to start somewhere and we’re super proud of the progress Greece is making. In terms of gay culture, the country has already made it with proud cities like Thessaloniki leading the way! 🌈

The main gay club of Thessaloniki is eNola - super stylish and always hosting an event, it's definitely worth a visit! Whatever you do, don't forget the Ouzo!
