Gran Canaria

Visit Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria might have a little bit of a reputation for being fun and trashy in the gay areas of Maspalomas (and there's nothing wrong with that!) BUT don't let that be all you think of when we say Gran Canaria.

There's a world of difference between the more *ahem* lively Yumbo Centre, but have you tried Puerto Morgan or Bahia Felize? We love a wild party from time to time and Maspalomas is definitely a more affordable price than Mykonos, but if you need some R&R or just a little bit more chill, don't rule this incredible destination out too soon!

thirsty?

There's so many bars to try, we can sense the hangovers from here! If you want a wild night, head for the Yumbo Centre where you have everything from Cafes and Cabaret to Cruisy and Clubby.

For a night of hilarity, you can't pass Chez Funny Boys without seeing the show. There's also a Flamenco Show at Terry Shows too! If you've heard of Parrots in Sitges then you have to try Parrots in Gran Canaria too. They have a great entertainment line up and a lovely terrace to sit with a cocktail and people watch.

MANTRIX tends to be where a lot of people might end the night as it's open super late, be warned! It can be a little dark if you venture to the back of the room.

lgbtq+ liberation in gran can

In the late 70s, Spain’s LGBT community rejoiced as homosexual activity was legalised across the country. All this meant was that they could no longer be sent down for going down after a night out – something they’d been doing since the beginning of time anyway!

Today, Spain is one of the most liberal countries in the world in terms of LGBT freedoms. In fact, according to a 2013 study by Pew Research Centre, a whopping 88% of Spanish citizens accept homosexuality. Join us in raising a glass to Spain who came out on top (or so to speak) against the 38 other countries who were polled. 🥂
